With Chimney Trail,
our nation's warriors and their families get stronger.
The mental health and well-being of our nation's warfighters and their families cannot be left to chance.
They must take an active role in their own self-care. We must provide the best possible tools to make that happen.
The best science has proven, the secret to strong mental states is no secret at all. It is clinically proven that mental health and well being is directly linked to our understanding the principles of something called, "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)."
Chimney Trail teaches our service members and their families about self-led CBT and how to apply it in a preventive way. They learn how their minds develop thoughts and feelings. Chimney Trail puts them in command of those thoughts and feelings.
With Chimney Trail, they will OVERCOME the ten cognitive distortions that cause destructive anxiety, depression, and suicide.
With Chimney Trail, our warriors will practice self-led CBT and will ultimately, THINK BETTER!
A Preventive, Self-led
Mental Healthcare Solution
Chimney Trail delivers preventive, self-led mental healthcare in a box. We call them "Waypoint Kits.”
Shipped once a quarter over the course of one year, Chimney Trail's Waypoint Kits include preventive CBT materials delivered directly to our service members' and veterans' doorsteps.
Removing ALL barriers to stronger mental states, each Waypoint Kit includes instructional material on the principles of CBT and at least $100 worth of premium outdoor gear to make the instructional activity accessible and fun.
Our curriculum was developed with world-class psychiatrists and psychologists from leading research universities. Put this expertise to work for our troops by scheduling a consultation to develop a specific curriculum based on the specific needs of your command.
After your consult, coordinate with your Contracting Office to place an order for your government or military organization. Once your order is submitted, Chimney Trail will email account creation codes to your designated point of contact. These codes will activate your curriculum via our Chimney Trail's website and will launch your first Waypoint Kits!
Stop the cycle of destructive anxiety, depression, and suicide wherever our warfighters' next chapter takes them. Overseas, back-home, or somewhere in between. No internet, no problem! Chimney Trail can get the curriculum to them FAST!
Every Waypoint Kit comes with an instruction booklet to coach warfighters and their families in the principles of CBT. Each activity addresses two of the ten cognitive distortions that lead to destructive anxiety and depression. The instruction is supplemented by a hand-picked collection of premium outdoor gear to make the activity accessible and FUN!

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
More veterans have died by suicide than by the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. It is in our power to fix this stain on our national consciousness. Eliminate pathological anxiety, depression, and suicide in our military and veteran communities by empowering them with skills learned through self-paced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
According to the American Psychiatric Association, CBT is a psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.
In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications. Historically, CBT has been hard to access because of limited clinical capacity.
Chimney Trail has solved this problem by creating a self-led curriculum of CBT training that incorporates fun, outdoor activities. We mail them to your doorstep. We call them, "Waypoints."
Waypoints lead veterans through a cycle of CBT with the veteran in command of their own mental health care journey. The curriculum is self-paced, self-led, and effective.
CDR Matthew Brown, USNR
"Everyone of us is Captain of our own action, intention, feelings, and thoughts. Let's use the best tools we can to THINK BETTER".
Matthew Brown is a Commander in the US Navy Reserve, Veteran Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, and Chief Executive Officer of Chimney Trail Health.
Prior to founding Chimney Trail, Matt was Commanding Officer of the US Navy warship, USS SCOUT and was a senior innovation advisor for Naval Special Warfare's SEAL Team 17.
During his time in service, he saw first-hand the need for a system of delivering preventive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training in an accessible, memorable way.
The challenges he saw in military life inspired him to collaborate with the world's top mental healthcare experts.
With input from Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Harvard, University of South Dakota, University of Maryland, Brown, and UPenn; Matt and his team developed a prevention-first curriculum of CBT training for all ages.
He aims to push back the tide of destructive anxiety and depression by teaching the principles of CBT and providing instruction on how to apply it in our lives.
The healthcare crisis
of our age requires smart solutions
Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy calls the current mental healthcare crisis "THE healthcare crisis of our TIME."
Not hyperbole. The numbers check out.
There is a pandemic of distorted thinking that's been exacerbated by rapid cultural changes, COVID precautions, and ready access to social media applications.
With Chimney Trail, we don't want everyone to throw away their smartphones and move back to 1970. We will however, help our warriors and their families view technology as a tool and not a destination.
Chimney Trail isn't JUST ANOTHER APP. We don't tell our warriors, or even just teach our warriors. We INVOLVE our warriors in developing their own mental health and well-being.
